The Federal Ministry of Social Security, Generations and Consumer Protection deals with general issues related to statutory social insurance in Austria, as well as with issues related to statutory pension insurance. Issues related to statutory health and work accident insurance are the responsibility of the Federal Ministry of Health.
All legal provisions related to social insurance law can be found in the SozDok database (documentation of Austrian social insurance legislation) and in the General Act on Social Insurance (ASVG).
Generally speaking, every person employed in Austria is also covered by social insurance.
However, companies frequently also want to use their workers abroad. Problems can arise here, such as contributions being deducted from incomes by both countries involved, or the loss of insurance cover.
In order to avoid such problems in advance, there are EU-wide arrangements and also Austrian agreements with other countries.
