Movement of pet dogs, cats or ferrets between Member states of the EU, the EEA, Northern Ireland and Switzerland

EU pet passport – Applicable only when travelling with private persons - animals must not be sold or transferred otherwise

Since 29.12.2014 new rules apply to intra-Community movements of pets (travels between Member states of the EU and the EEA, Northern Ireland and Switzerland) due to Regulation (EU) No. 576/2013

Amended pet passport

Besides other changes the pet passport (PDF, 171 KB)has also been amended when issued after 29. December 2014. If you already have a pet passport for your animal it will remain valid for the lifetime of the animal. 

Please note:

From the entry into force of the "Veterinärbehördliche Binnenmarktverordnung 2022" on 19. October 2022 amended conditions apply. You will find the conditions applicable to the intra-Union movement of dogs, cats and ferrets when travelling with private owners from that date in the information leaflet below.
