Types of Pension

In Austria, a differentiation is made between own pensions (based on one’s own insurance record) and survivors’ pensions.

On the following pages we provide a general overview of which types of pensions are available from the pension insurance system when a certain age is reached, in cases of invalidity and inability to work, and in the case of death.

Making an application

It is absolutely necessary to make an application for a benefit from the pension insurance system to be granted. This also applies to survivors’ pensions. Pensions are not granted automatically, even when a pension amount has been calculated in advance or when a person’s insurance record has already been established.
